Place Cobholm Railway Bridge
Notes:
Master conducting party to playing fields on special Corporation bus. Bus attempted to go under bridge which tore off top of bus. Master injured and 12 boys.
Log Book 13th September 1949
48 boys left school today for organised games on the Cobholm Playing Fields, by Corporation bus, under the charge of Mr A.E.Selby. The bus attempted to go under the low Railway Bridge leading to the field and had the top of the bus torn off. 12 boys and Mr Selby were treated in hospital for cuts and bruises and five were detained. Full report was made to the Education Officer, by telephone from the hospital and later in writing.
14th September
Mr Selby attended school today but still suffering from shock, left to see his doctor at my request and returned to school about 11 o'clock. One boy attended to at the hospital yesterday for cuts in the accident came to school this afternoon.

June 12th
Mr Selby accompanied 28 children to Town Hall to take part in Junior Schools Musical festival. two individual items rendered by the school were "Bless This House" and "Waltzing Matilda" (PFD I remember this with embarrassment. We got to the high note of "Bless This House" and totally lost it as it was far too high for any of us to reach.It was awful and everyone laughed at us. Mr Selby said the pianist had started far too high!)

July 19th
I (Mr Waller) took Joan Ling,Jill Drew, Pauline Tuttle and Terence Harwood to the bathing pool to swim for their 25yards certificate. All passed.

School broadcasting interrupted at 11.15 am with an anouncement of the death of H.M. King George V1
February 12th 1952

February 29th
School closed for Common Entrance examination. All 17 of eligible children were present for the exam. Councillor J.P. Winter presided.
June 20th 1952
Went to the Zoo 37 Children.(PFD I remember this well. It was one of the few things I was allowed to do. We all went on a coach and had a wonderful time. Saw Guy the gorilla and brought my mum a peacock feather, only later did I find it was unlucky and she was very superstitious!)
