. Rather ghostly picture of the old school but the best I have as yet. Thanks to Bryan Blissett for supplying it and Colin Cockle for making it clearer!
In a short letter in the Yarmouth Mercury in June 2012, a plea went out for any details of an accident that happened when a school bus carrying children to their playing fields, hit a bridge, and a number of them were injured. The school was the Northgate Junior School at Runham Vauxhall. I was immediately interested because that was my little school and I well remembered that day. I was not on the bus but knew many of them that were. My next door neighbour at number 22 Alderson Road, Frank Holmes, had been injured and had a large scar on his forehead to prove it.
Colin Cockle was asking for information on behalf of a friend, Benny Simmons. Benny had no access to a computer but Colin offered his help. Thus the letter in the Yarmouth Mercury.
I didn't know much about the accident ( I discovered later that it was a boys only bus ) but I was happy to give my five pen'worth and contacted Colin with the little information I had. This whole web page started from that letter. With some research, which I am still completing, and a great deal of help from Colin, we got off to a good start.
One problem was that however hard we tried we just could not find a picture of the old school. I decided to put another plea for information into the Yarmouth Mercury to see if I could glean any more information. The Yarmouth Mercury obliged (bless em!)I didn't find the photograph but I certainly struck gold! Two letters and a fabulous photograph later I had the most wonderful memories of the school. Jill Harding (nee Drew)remembered it all! What a memory.
The following pages are all the details we have gathered together, hoping that perhaps other pupils of this funny little school might find us and tell us their stories. One day perhaps we will find that photograph!
